Art Activities: Finger Printing Art

Hercules received a Finger Printing Art Book by Faber-Castell for Christmas from my BFF and I recently gave Aristotle and Hercules a chance to give it a go. Although it was Hercules’ present, Aristotle really wanted to do it as well.

Finger Printing Art

What is Finger Printing Art?

It is an art activity where you use your finger print to create pictures. For example:

The Faber-Castell Art Book offers step by step instructions on how to create finger print pictures. It teaches how to create different shapes with your finger print, and how simple black marker lines can turn your finger print into a picture. After that, the book continues with finger printing activities from finger printing colour onto your own picture to creating a finger print picture of your own design.

Even if you don’t have a finger printing art set, it is simple enough to do this activity using coloured stamp pads, coloured markers and paper. You can follow the instructions from these Youtube videos:

It is a fun activity that is very easy to do – a little messy but definitely neater than letting your toddler paint with water colours. If you are creating your own finger printing kit, make sure you get the washable ink stamp pads then you can use a wet-wipe or wet towel to clean your child’s fingers when changing colours.

Here’s one Hercules’ did (the image on the left is the example given in the book for the children to copy):

And this is Aristotle’s (Aristotle decided he didn’t want to follow the colour scheme supplied, so he came up with his own):
