Online Science Resource: Britannica Pathways – Science

Some 5 years ago I complained about the dearth of digital educational products (and I mean real educational products, not the crappy stuff that are really games masquerading in the educational category). Now, digital products are are so plentiful, they’re spilling out of every nook and cranny.

Here’s another one that popped up on the radar recently:

Britannica Pathways: Science

I would write about it except that they’ve posted such a terrific video describing the system that I think it’s probably best if you just watch it.

If you don’t have time to watch the video, here it is a nutshell:

Britannica Pathways: Science is a new standards-correlated online tool that uses a “probe” framework to target commonly held misconceptions within the context of the existing science curriculum for grades 6, 7, and 8.

Students use an interactive, hands-on approach so that they learn by doingparticipatingdiscussing, and concluding. Each lesson uses probe questions to help start the conversation about what students are thinking and why, and then follows a consistent progression based on student responses.

Although intended for students in grade 6-8, I’m sure the curriculum would still work well for a lot of homeschoolers since many homeschooled students are usually advanced in their lessons. You can check out a sample lesson to gauge the level and sign up for a free trial subscription to help you decide if this resource is right for your family.
