Over the last couple of days I haven’t been feeling myself. I couldn’t say I was sick, but I didn’t feel “right”. I’d wake up aching and feeling lethargic with no mood to do anything. My nipples would be sensitive when I nursed Gavin. My mouth has been feeling like cardboard – the kind of sensation you have when you’re sick and you can’t really taste your food. Then of course there was the PMS episode.
Yesterday, I woke up still feeling the same. I went to Nandos with my MIL and Gavin for lunch and felt like having orange juice! These days, I drink orange juice to humour my son but ordinarily I would never opt to have orange juice. And then there was the salt cravings… I wanted to eat chips because I was looking forward to the salt. I also felt like eating instant noodles – still do. I felt like drinking 100Plus. In fact, I’ve found it difficult to drink plain water lately. These are all the usual cravings I get when I’m nauseous, dehydrated or recovering from a hangover.
And then I was late. Well, considering this is my irregular ovary, it was possibly still “on time”, but every day that passed seemed to suggest that something was up.
And it was:
Who would have thought I would be so happy to be pregnant again after the last ordeal?
We’ve also unofficially told Gavin and he’s promised to love the baby as much as Mummy loves him. It will be interesting to see how things develop.
I guess this means you’ll be hearing less from me from now on since I’ve been nagged to sleep earlier and rest more – at least until the first trimester is over. So far the symptoms are manageable, but if they do get worse, I’m sure my body will force me to comply against my wishes. I will try to update the blog every few days though.
It will be an interesting journey – nursing while pregnant, possibly tandem nursing (if Gavin continues to nurse after the delivery), and getting an older child adjusted to the arrival of a second child.
