I’m not really sure how long more I’m going to keep up with these posts because we seem to be doing less and less as the weeks go by – more due to fatigue and morning sickness on my part though I keep promising to make it up to Gavin when I feel more alive during second trimester (here’s hoping that comes sooner rather than later).
Well, we did get up to a few new activities last week:
We took out Gavin’s old ball house and set it up again.
It has been a while since he last played with it, but as you can see, he’s decided to furnish his house with an armchair as well. I find it amusing how infants develop a dislike for the Bumbo seat only to rediscover a passion for it when they’re older and no longer need it.
We had a bit of fun “chasing” and crawling in and out of the ball house (Gavin – not me – I just poked my head in and pulled faces at him which appeared to be enough to trigger an eruption of squeals and laughter).
Despite the very few number of balls in the house, Gavin still wanted me to “bury” him in them (like we used to do at Playland in Kizsports). Not an easy feat with only 50 balls, I should add.
After that, Gavin played “Godzilla” and “demolished” his house.
We also had another art session. I think Gavin is getting a little bored of this because he’s been declining lately whenever I ask him if he wants to paint. It was only when I bought him a new set of paints by Crayola that his interest was re-ignited (Valerie – I haven’t been able to find the ones you mentioned in your email).
Thanks to Valerie for her suggestion, I also taught Gavin about primary, secondary and tertiary colours by mixing the colours together to get green, purple, orange and brown. It is a little unfortunate that the colours don’t come out so well with these paints.
After that, it was no-holds-barred finger painting mess!
We ended the week with a little dip in the wading pool – another toy that hasn’t been out for a while.
Although Gavin is very fond of water and likes to “go swimming”, he doesn’t seem very keen to go to the big swimming pool. He expressed a lot more interest playing in the shallow wading pool – which is probably a lot easier for me now since I don’t have to get into the water with him and we can do it all from the comfort of our own home.
I brought out his rubber duck and cups for him to make a mess with and boy did he really make a mess! By the time he was done, there was hardly any water left in the pool!
He also consented to do a few “laps” in his wading pool – something else we have lots of trouble getting him to do in the big swimming pool.
We practiced pouring water from one cup to another. The idea was not to spill any water, but somehow, Gavin didn’t think that was any fun at all and decided to make as much mess as was humanly possible.
I think the only thing that convinced him to get out of the pool was the fact that there was hardly any water left in it.
I definitely think we’ll be doing this one again soon.

Base – I’ve noticed that all his paintings seem to have a definite “green” skew to them…
Sooyin – hahaha… until he tries to wipe his sweat from his forehead…
Valerie – Ah… ok, never went to Popular since it’s not at the usual places we frequent. I’ll look out for it the next time I’m in the area (although I’m not sure how long more Gavin’s art interest is going to last). If he rediscovers a passion for painting, then I might invest in more paintbrushes, but I think for now, we’ll work with the ones we have.
