Okay, I think I have seriously underestimated the power of a novelty sandwich for encouraging a fussy eater. One of the benefits of having a chef for a SIL is having access to a large variety of sandwich (or cookie) cutters. Below is just a peek of what’s available – lucky Gavin gets to choose a new shape every day.
Ever since my SIL started offering Gavin novelty sandwiches, he’s been excited about taking sandwiches to school. So far, he’s had a train sandwich, a bone sandwich, a boy sandwich, a fish sandwich and a duck sandwich.
Who would have thought cutting a sandwich into a funny shape would have such an appeal to a child?

That’s a great idea! I feel like eating them too.

Ah… the only problem I’ve discovered with this is that they work too well. Gavin eats so many sandwiches now that I’m left with a lot of excess crust which I can’t seem to eat up as quickly.
I’ve tried a new tact – giving him the inverse shapes. So far so good…
