Being a car enthusiast, hubby wanted me to teach the kids more about cars. So this is the first of a series flashcards on car logos that I have made myself. Not really being into cards, myself, I took a list of car brands I found through Google. If you don’t agree with the list I have here, then please amend the slides as you wish. I plan to create more but it is time consuming so please bear with me.
How to use the slides:
I used to recommend a blog post I wrote some time back titled “How to Teach Your Baby (the Glenn Doman way)” as described in the book “How to Teach Your Baby to Read” by Glenn Doman. However, since teaching my children using this method, I have found it to be unnecessarily repetitive and too slow. Doman is right – children are brilliant learners and they can learn very fast – but I feel his method doesn’t address this adequately because it incorporates too many repetitions. Children can learn so fast that sometimes all it takes is one flash taken in at a glance.
If you’re like me, doubting whether once is enough, then you may want to repeat the series a few more times. I’m not going to make a recommendation on how many times it is necessary to show a child a series of flashcards because I don’t believe I have enough experience on this topic to do that. Even now I still have trouble believing that a child can learn that quickly even though my son has proven to me time an again that it is so. However, I do believe that 3 times a day for 5 days is probably a tad excessive. It appears that a number of other mothers who have tried the Doman method concur.
Flash the cards quickly – about the pace of one card per second. The younger your child, the faster I would go. It is difficult to maintain the attention of a very young child unless you do flash them quickly.
With this series, I’ve taken the kids through the entire series in one go. Gavin responds to it fairly well – maybe because it means more to him since he recognises our car brands in the list. It could also possibly be because we used to flick through Daddy’s car magazines while I was trying to potty train him and name the car brands. With Gareth, it really depends on his mood. Could it be that he isn’t as keen on cars as Daddy???

Oh no worries. I’m working on one with pictures of the cars. I’m afraid I only chose the pretty cars so not sure if the kids will see them on the road though. I’ll bet they’ll be drool worthy for the hubbies…

Hi Shen-Li. Thank you so much, as this was what i was looking for 🙂 Every time we are on the road, i was telling my boy that i’m going to print it all the car logos for you. So this wild cards helped a lot for me 😉 Actually i’m now putting them all in one slide (logo+name), as i’ll give him a page only. (Also replacing some of the logos) If you’d like to have a copy of this, i can email it to you as well.

My pleasure! I’m glad you found them useful! 🙂 Thanks for the offer to share. At the moment the boys are off car logos so we’re working on other flash cards.

Hello, I am unable to download your flashcards when I click on the link. Could you send them to me? I’m a car nut and my little 2 year old girl is showing a lot of interest in cars, so I’d love to have some flashcards to teach here the different makes of automobiles. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Chuck

Hi Chuck – the file is very large (too large for email). I’ve fixed it. Try downloading again.

Hi Dr Shen-Li Lee,
The link does not seem to be working. Is there any chance this download is still available?
Kind regards,
Troy

Hi Troy – I think the files got lost during my website migration. I’ve attached the file again.
