Life’s full of new experiences when you’re a child – a visit to the dentist, a flight on an airplane, these are all new experiences that can seem strange and scary to a child. It makes it easier if parents can help prepare their children for what’s coming and sometimes it’s helpful to have simple books that explain it all succinctly with friendly pictures to go with it.
Enter Arlo the Elephant.
Arlo is a fun-loving elephant who loves to learn about new things. In his books, Arlo teaches young children about everyday life experiences that might be new, frightening, and overwhelming. Arlo already has two books in his series:
- Arlo Goes to the Dentist
- Arlo and the Airplane
And he’s won a number of awards for them…
Arlo Goes to the Dentist:
- Gold, Children’s and Parenting Category in the 2011 Independent Book Awards
- Finalist, Children’s Picture Book: Softcover Fiction in the 2012 USA Best Book Awards
- Honorable Mention, Children’s Category in the 2013 San Francisco Book Festival
- Finalist, Children’s Picture Book: Softcover Fiction in the 2013 International Book Awards
Arlo and the Airplane:
- Finalist, Children’s Picture Book: Softcover Fiction in the 2013 International Book Awards
- Winner, Children’s Easy Reader in the 2013 Indie Excellence Awards
Storytelling is a great way to introduce new things to children while inculcating a good habit for reading. Even better is when your children can take home a message from the books they read. Since children only take in messages from the things they like, it is important to have a book with a character that children relate to and have a connection with. Arlo the elephant is perfect for the job because he’s been tried and proven to be well-loved by the children, parents and teachers who know him. Given the early success with Arlo, it would be great if we could see more of him in books to come. For this reason, his creator, Karisa Lowe, has created a Kickstarter Project to bring Arlo the Elephant’s experiential book series to life.
In the latest book, Arlo will be telling children about the Farmer’s Market where children can learn about the importance of a healthy diet that includes fruits and vegetables. If you want to help make this book a reality, please visit please visit Arlo on Kickstarter to learn more about his Kickstarter project.
Unfortunately, Arlo at this stage is only available for shipping within the US. We hope you’ll help Karisa and Arlo reach their target of $15000 by September 8 so they can bring this worthy goal to life.
