Creating a Brighter Tomorrow

“The purpose of education in the future will not be to create people with heads crammed full of knowledge, but to rear children who know how to efficiently use the whole brain. Rearing children with enormous ability, rich creativity, and the capability to make use of a high proportion of their brains should be the goal of child rearing…
…I believe that to raise children who will be capable of soaring up into the 21st Century, it is necessary for us to wake up to the fact that unknown and unexplainable abilities do exist. And it is necessary to put new methods of education into practice that will develop these special abilities.” – Makoto Shichida
The goal of Figur8 is to explore how we can raise children who will be capable of soaring up into the 21st Century and to share our findings with other parents and educators. We are dedicated to helping parents bring out the genius potential that lives within the heart of every child so that together we may pave the way to a better tomorrow. As parents, we’re not just rearing children, we’re molding the future. In our hands lies the power to change the world “one heart at a time” (Pamela Hickein, Right Brain Kids).
Early Childhood Development – Education Begins in Infancy
To inculcate a love for learning, it is important to begin early. Though it may appear competitive to desire to teach a baby to read, calculate Mathematical problems, and to learn bits of information like the Periodic Table, the reality is that starting early makes it easier for a child to learn in later life. Babies love to learn. They are eager for new information and they are primed for learning. Maria Montessori called it the “absorbent mind”. It refers to the first six years of life when learning is easy because a child has the unique ability to take in everything from the surrounding environment.
Glenn Doman discovered that during this period, it is easy for a child to learn how to read, do Math, develop encyclopedic knowledge, as well as physical excellence. Makoto Shichida stated that these amazing learning abilities were due to a child’s right brain dominance. As a child grows older and begins to shift towards left brain dominance, these rapid learning abilities begin to diminish and the potential is lost. In order to maintain these remarkable learning faculties, Shichida encourages parents to engage the child with specific activities designed to keep the right brain active so that the child may continue to use these special talents even in adulthood.
Right Brain Education – Whole Brain Education
Right brain education is somewhat of a misnomer because the aim of right brain education is to harness the superb right brain capabilities and combine these abilities with the logical, analytical left brain. By developing the right and left brains together, the synergy within the whole brain allows our children to realise their genius potentials.
Right brain education is not just about raising a child who demonstrates academic genius. Right brain education has also helped children achieve excellence in all other areas of life. Children with the ability to utilise their whole brains efficiently are able to offer their talents towards the betterment of humankind.
